Students must disclose how AI tools were used in their academic work. Transparency is mandatory if AI-assisted input contributed to the assignment.
Disclosure should be included in a note or methods section at the end of your work, stating which AI tools were used, how they were used, and what prompts or inputs were given.
“If you have completed any work with the aid of an AI tool… you should always acknowledge the use. Using the outputs of an AI tool without proper acknowledgment is equivalent to lifting or paraphrasing a paragraph from a source without citation and attracts the same sanctions.”
“You can give this acknowledgment through a note or ‘methods section’ at the end of the assignment explaining, e.g., which AI tools were used, in which parts of the process they were used, what the prompts used to generate results, and what you did with the outputs to add value.”
(Plagiarism & AI Policy, p. 5)
Parts of this assignment were supported by the use of ChatGPT. I used ChatGPT (OpenAI, accessed April 2025) to help brainstorm structure and clarify key concepts related to Islamic finance in Section 2. The prompt used was: "Explain the concept of Riba in simple terms with examples." The output was then reviewed, edited, and supplemented with material from class lectures and assigned readings.
