AI Policy: Student Guidelines: Using AI for learning

Use AI as a Learning Aid Only

Summary

AI can support your learning process, for example, through brainstorming, explanations, or proofreading. However, it must not replace your own analysis or writing.

Policy Clause

“Some possible legitimate uses include:
i) Gathering information and looking up explanations for basic concepts.
ii) Generating output for critique and analysis, self-learning, or comparing against one’s work for improvement.
iii) Help with proofreading and editing writing work.”
(Plagiarism & AI Policy, p. 5)

Example

You may use ChatGPT to explain a concept you’re struggling with, then write your own interpretation based on what you learned. This is allowed, as long as the AI output is not directly submitted as your answer.
